Position Summary: Research indicates that dedicating time to self and social learning leads to a more positive school experience, enhancing attendance and reducing discipline issues. The Life-Skills Education program is designed to provide Kindergarten to 5th grade students the skills to identify and manage their emotions, resolve conflicts, and work in a team in order to succeed.

For the 2024-2025 school year, ACE will be working with K-5 students at all five elementary schools within the Bessemer City School District, i.e. Charles F. Hard, Greenwood, J.S. Abrams, Jonesboro, and Westhills Elementary School from August to May.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read, understand, and be fully prepared to deliver LSE lesson plans provided by ACE.
• Create and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning.
• Assess student progress and provide feedback to program coordinators.
• Adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
• Collect and report data on student participation and program outcomes as required.
• Attend approximately 16 hours of paid facilitator training (dates TBD). 

Federal Work/Study earnings will be paid biweekly in the form of a check or direct deposit payable to the student. This award does not credit to the account of the student as payment toward University charges.

Experience and/or desire to work with elementary aged students.

• Able to manage a classroom of 15-30 students in grades K-5.
• Demonstrates patience and flexibility.
• Enjoys working in a fast paced environment,
• Time management skills.
• Strong public speaking & communication skills
• Energetic & enthusiastic.
• Ideal for elementary education majors, social work, psychology, human development, and related fields, though not required.
• Completion of criminal background check required.

Position Hours: 7:30am-2:30pm
***Note: Dates worked and hours available depend on your desired number and availability. You can work as few hours as you would like, up to 35 hours per month. ACE is closed on Mondays!
